Las Margaritas

Renovation of a Former Asturian Restaurant in Madrid. @margaritasmadrid

For this project, we aimed to preserve the spatial layout of the former restaurant, adding a technical ceiling to accommodate all the installations. This ceiling also captures the visual identity of Las Margaritas while hiding the original construction flaws of the pavilion, which was hastily built with concrete vaults and prefabricated beams. It’s a straightforward, cheerful interventionβ€”perhaps even a bit banalβ€”that pays homage to the forgotten plaster moldings typical of old-fashioned diners from not so long ago.

The new plaster false ceiling showcases nine daisies (margaritas), suspended from the chaotic original ceiling. They are crafted from a wooden mold precision-milled by a CNC machine . The air vents and ceiling lights are prefabricated plaster pieces as well.

The installations are neatly arranged in a grid, punctuated by four columns. This constellation of flowers and circles houses the air vents and low-intensity lights of the restaurant. It conceals the technical and chaotic network of air ducts and plastic corrugated cables for electricity, all while preserving the simple character of traditional eateries (casas de comidas).
